OUR HISTORY

Valley Baptist Church began in 1904, when Dr. and Mrs. N. Q. Humston donated the land on which the original Humston Baptist Church was built. The church carried their name until 1970, when the congregation voted to adopt the name Valley Baptist Church.

Over the years, God has blessed the church with faithful pastors and seasons of growth. After its early beginnings and several pastoral transitions, the church expanded its ministries and facilities throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including the purchase of new property in Edinburg and the construction of the church, school, and later the gymnasium, radio station, and daycare.

Pastor James D. Bailey served as pastor for many of these significant decades of growth and was honored as Pastor Emeritus upon his retirement in 2015.

In that same year, Pastor Chad Estep—who already served Valley Baptist Church for seventeen years as Assistant Pastor—was called to be the Senior Pastor. Under his leadership, the church continues to grow, serve the community, and reach families across the Shenandoah Valley.
